Seven Business Building Pitfalls to Avoid

Have you ever wondered how some LifePharm team leaders became so successful, so quickly? Creating and maintaining business relationships takes time and effort to build. But they can be destroyed overnight if you aren’t careful. Here are seven tips to avoid making in business relationships.

Being impersonal
Some people like having a strictly business relationship. But, for the most part, humans are social beings and they like knowing the person they do business with knows them and their business transactions aren’t just a means to an end for the other person. Sometimes the “strictly business” behavior is just subconscious and it can be easy to slip into with busy schedules. Always remember that as a LifePharm IBO, you’re working on a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship. Show genuine interest in people’s careers, families and hobbies. Loyalty reaches far and wide.

Lack of appreciation
Everybody wants to know that their contributions are acknowledged and appreciated. It is easy to forget to thank someone who shares a prospect lead, helps you achieve a higher rank, or otherwise goes out of their way for you. Make a conscious effort to show gratitude for things that others do for you, and they’ll be more inclined to help you in the future.

No follow up
After somebody assists you in organizing or hosting a LifePharm Business meeting or explains the compensation plan to you, keep them posted on how things are going. Whether you now have more business, or your attempt to market something failed, let people know how they contributed to your endeavor. Show that you aren’t going to abandon them as soon as you get what you want.

Inconsistency in perception
In all relationships, people deserve to know that your good intentions are genuine. If you are good to someone who’s good to you, but they see you failing to treat others the same way, they will question your motives. They may think you are sucking up or being deceptive to get what you want. Treating everyone you meet the same way helps you come across as sincere and genuine.

Failing to admit mistakes
Part of developing trust is showing that you know how to be accountable. If you mess up, fess up about it. People understand that mistakes are made, but lying about them can cause permanent damage to your relationships. They’ll never know when you are being honest or just covering up your mistake.

Being unreliable
Just like when businesses deceivingly change their policies or don’t meet obligations, you can really offend someone when you’re not reliable. Don’t miss business meetings or events you rsvp’d to and don’t flake on promises. These mistakes can cost your business relationships significantly. Your value is only as good as your word to both your LifePharm team members and customers.

Watch your words
Everyone makes mistakes in conversation, but you need to avoid doing so in relationship building. A simple slip of the tongue can cost you a lot in the long run. No matter where you are or who you are with, remember you are representing LifePharm and the mission statement it stands for. In addition, if you speak poorly about people (maybe a fellow IBO) behind their backs to someone else, that person will then be wary you may do the same to him/her.
